Our Mission
Mission Statement
We exist to shrink the distance between industry marketing and lived outcomes. Gambling products are engineered for frequency, illusion of control, and social proof. Our mission is to publish journalism, narrative, and tools that restore proportion: what odds actually mean, what debt does to a household budget, and how to access confidential help without a credit card on file. We treat readers as adults who deserve facts, not as marks to be nudged toward abstinence slogans.
The Problem We Are Solving
Problem gambling clusters with mood disorders, trauma histories, and sleep disruption. It also clusters with aggressive acquisition spend: personalized bonuses, frictionless deposits, and dark patterns that disguise losses as entertainment. Public health systems move slowly; operators iterate weekly. Scorched Metal cannot outspend them, but we can translate regulator PDFs into human sentences, archive whistleblower testimony, and keep helpline numbers visible in the same viewport as myth-busting explainers.
We track legislative calendars, tax earmarks for so-called responsible gambling funds, and whether those funds actually reach treatment beds. When a jurisdiction pretends self-exclusion works without enforcement, we say so plainly and link to advocacy groups pushing for hardware-level blocks and cooling-off periods that cannot be bypassed with a new email address.
Three Pillars
Education
Odds literacy, bankroll reality checks, and explainers on random number generators versus skill framing. We publish worksheets you can print before a night out.
Awareness
Stories, audio, and data visuals that show who profits, who pays, and which neighborhoods see the densest ad load.
Support
Curated routes to helplines, chat, and financial counseling. We never charge for referrals and we never harvest crisis correspondence for marketing.
What We Are Not
We are not a treatment center, not a law firm, and not a debt relief service. We do not diagnose disorders and we do not negotiate with creditors on your behalf. Our AI assistant, AXIOM, is an informational tool with hard limits: it can describe risk, suggest math, and point to helplines, but it cannot replace a clinician or a certified gambling counselor. If you are in immediate danger, call emergency services in your country.
Long-Term Vision
We want a media ecosystem where harm reduction budgets are not laundered through the same companies that profit from harm. We want self-exclusion to be technically enforceable, not a checkbox. We want young fans of sport to recognize odds overlays as paid persuasion, not insider knowledge. We will keep publishing until those conditions are closer, and then we will pivot to watchdog reporting on whatever replaces today's machines.
Call To Action
Read a story, send us a tip, or forward our resources page to someone who keeps saying they have it under control. If you work in product and want to speak anonymously, we know how to scrub metadata. If you are simply tired, call 1-800-522-4700 before you read another word.
